Get to know Josh Friedberg and Freebird Advisory
Freebird Advisory started when some former coworkers approached me for help thinking through the strategic challenges they were facing. Since 2019, the initiative has grown to help numerous companies better understand their product and business.

Josh's passions drive his mission to shrink the world by democratizing access to transportation through advancing technology. Growing up in a diasporic family, Josh often had to travel far to see relatives. Despite that distance, he loved the adventure and the journey. This quickly grew into a passion for aviation and by extension anything mechanical - you would have been hard-pressed to find a six-year old who had more knowledge about World War II aircraft or the Titanic disaster when he was that age. At the same time, this rural upbringing offered him a unique advantage: he lived in one of BellSouth’s early test markets for high-speed internet and parents who enabled, supported, and trusted discovery through technology. By ten, he was teaching himself Photoshop and dabbling in coding; only a few years later, he was modding video games and leading esports teams.
In high school, Josh played left back in soccer, ran track, and was a counselor at the theater camp he attended as a kid. His first "real job" was at a local hospital, where he contributed to research by teaching himself statistics software to analyze medical records and generate models for cytogenetic research.
Josh then attended Georgia Tech, where he completed the Honors Program with a degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering with highest honors (summa cum laude), study abroad, and co-op designations. During his undergrad, he interned three semesters with Coca-Cola and another with Goldman Sachs on various strategy and operations teams. During school semesters, he taught data science courses (Python and SQL) as a TA. Outside of class, he led recruitment and several initiatives for his fraternity and various organizations.
After graduation, Josh joined Deloitte as a Strategy & Operations consultant. During his time there, he helped clients transform their businesses and unlock over $250 million in value through strategic initiatives and advanced analytics. Outside of work, he leveraged his travel schedule to explore new cities and countries. On weekends between work trips, he also completed flight training.
After three years, Deloitte awarded Josh a full-ride to earn an MBA. Instead of pursing business school, Josh sought immediately bigger roles and responsibilities. In line with his passion for aviation, he joined Skyryse as the second business-hire, where he was tasked with designing, launching, operating, and scaling a consumer business for the autonomous technology company. He served concurrently as a business operations lead, flight operations lead, and product manager.
When Skyryse pivoted away from its consumer business, Josh stayed on as an advisor, giving rise to Freebird Advisory. After working with a few clients, he then shifted his focus back to transportation, and in particular to public transit systems, joining Via in 2020 on their Marketplace team. There he helped design, launch, scale, and operate rideshare-style transit networks across the US and Canada.
After a couple years, Palantir recruited Josh to focus on their aviation and aerospace engagements. In 2023, Josh was offered the opportunity to build his own product and his own team from scratch with SailPlan.
Currently living in Manhattan, Josh is an instrument-rated pilot, avid skier, advanced SCUBA diver and freediver, photographer, and amateur horticulturalist - you should see his watermelon plants. He speaks Spanish and Portuguese, and he is a citizen of both the US and Portugal. Josh is TS/SCI eligible and had already submitted his SF-86 while at Palantir.
